Learner vs. Teacher

In the past couple days, I've been thinking about what it means to be a learner versus what it means to be a teacher. These may be seen as two separate and interdependent roles that a person can play, but I think it's more complicated than that. Throughout my studies, I'm slowly making the transition from learner to teacher. However, I stumbled upon this quote, which reminded me of something I had momentarily forgotten.
"Never stop learning, because life never stops teaching"
- Unknown

I love this quote because it captures the essence of what it means to simply live one's life and continuously learn from everything around you, like your travel destinations, culture, elders, younger family members, friends, school, and for me, my students. Even as a teacher, I know that I'll always be learning from my students. I don't think teachers can ever stop being learners inside and outside of the classroom because learning is the only way to keep your teaching practices modern, up to date and fresh. I think it would be naive for me to think that as a teacher, I'm going to know everything, have all the answers, and never be challenged by my students.
As a learner at this stage of my education, I feel I learn best when I organize everything mentally as well as physically. By doing this, I feel less overwhelmed and I am able to picture everything I have to do. I'm addicted to making lists, especially because I love crossing items off of them! Even more so, it's important as a learner to be able to look at our work critically and to reflect on any feedback. Accepting and honestly considering feedback is a great way to grow as a learner, even though it may be difficult sometimes.
